No More Landlines?

A recent survey by Statistics Canada found that more and more people are getting rid of their landlines.  In 2013, more than 20% of Canadian households relied on cellphones exclusively, as compared to only 13% in 2010.

Not surprisingly, this trend is more common among young people, with about 60% of households with people under the age of 35 reporting that they only use cell phones. This percentage is up from 39% back in 2010.

Statistics Canada also reported that here in Alberta we have one of the highest rates of cellphone use, with 91% of households saying they own at least one cell phone.

The shift away from landlines and towards becoming exclusively mobile isn’t necessarily surprising, especially given the advancements and improving functionality of mobile devices: we have access to communication, entertainment, banking and even security monitoring, all from the palms of our hands.

Gone is the day where alarm signals had to be sent to the monitoring station from your landline. With the advancements in mobile technology, Frontline’s GSM and cellular options are much faster and more effective for notifying the monitoring station as soon as an incident occurs.
